What is Task Achievement in IELTS Writing?
In IELTS Writing, you will be given certain ‘Tasks’, consisting of a set of instructions and a particular topic.
Task achievement refers to your ability to complete the task correctly, according to the instructions and the topic.
Types of tasks in IELTS Academic Writing

Summarize the diagram: You will be given an infographic, i.e. a visual representation of information. Your task is to summarize the information in about 150 words, and answer the given question or follow the instructions.
Example:

Essay-Writing: You will be given a topic, in the form of a few statements or questions. Your task is to write an essay of about 250 words. You need to ensure that you answer the question as per given instructions. Task Achievement is where most students lose their marks, so it needs to be ensure that all aspects of the question are answered adequately.
Example:
“The sciences are more important than the arts.” To what extent do you agree?
How to Score High in Task Achievement?
Here’s how to ensure that you always get good scores for Task Achievement:

Learn the types of questions: Under Summarize the Diagram, you could get a bar graph, a line graph etc. Under Essay-writing, you could get an opinion essay, description essay etc. Knowing these types will help you plan your answers easily, quickly and correctly.

Read the question/task carefully: Make sure you know what is being asked and plan your answer accordingly. This includes carefully examining the infographic/reading the essay topic.

Double check your answer: Once you’ve written, cross-check it with the question. Make sure that every aspect has been addressed, and that you have not included irrelevant information.
