PTE, though a relatively new entrant on the language proficiency circuit, has become a hit among test-takers who enjoy fully computerized exams and prefer to see their results a little sooner than IELTS Coaching in Bangalore.

What is PTE

Pearson Language Tests or PTE is a unit of the Pearson PLC group that is enabled for assessing and validating the English language practice of non-native English speakers. The tests include PTE Academic, PTE General (formerly Australia Tests of English), and PTE Young Learners (formerly Australia Tests of English for Children).

PTE is a computer-based exam that caters to the real-life English used in academic surroundings. Integrated language is used throughout the world to obtain a variety of accents. Academic language will include all these accents that the students will come across at English-speaking higher education institutions.

PTE Academic is the leading computer-based test of English for study abroad and immigration. It offers fast and flexible English testing. The candidates can schedule their test up to twenty-four hours in advance and receive their results within five business days. PTE Academic offers flexible testing locations, with test centers in more than 50 countries worldwide.

PTE Academic is accepted by a number of academic institutions worldwide, including Harvard Business School, INSEAD and Yale University. PTE Academic is also accepted for visa applications.

A letter confirming the details of the test will be sent by email. For a PTE Academic test, the candidate has to attend in a secure Pearson test center. A computer and headset to listen to, read and respond to the questions will be provided. During the three-hour test session there will be three main parts to the test: speaking and writing (together), listening and reading. There are 20 different question formats, from multiple choices to essay writing and interpreting information.

PTE Academic assesses real-life, academic English; therefore, lectures will be presented via audio along with graphs and charts. There will be a range of accents in the test, from British and American to non-native speakers, to enable candidates to be exposed to the type of accents that one might encounter in everyday life.

Test Format

Part 1: Speaking & Writing (70 - 90 minutes)

• Personal introduction
• Read aloud
• Repeat sentence
• Describe image
• Re-tell reading
• Answer short question
• Summarize written text (10 mins)
• Essay (20 mins)

In Part 1 speaking and writing skills are examined. The time allotted is 77-93 minutes. To assess the language, ability to produce in English. For writing, one must write responses in academic English without any grammatical or spelling errors
