Set to commence from the year 2020, the Department of Education, Australian Government, has newly introduced its ‘Destination Australia’ scholarships, to promote and facilitate education in Regional Australia, for domestic and international students.
The scheme will provide scholarships worth $15,000, covering the cost of living and study in regional campuses of eligible tertiary education (i.e. higher education) providers, to over a thousand students from both within and outside Australia, with the awards for both categories equally distributed.
Key Facts
According to the official website for Destination Australia, applications will open later this year i.e. 2019, for the award of scholarships in 2020, from semester one. (In Australia, semester one usually commences in late January or early February.)
Candidates for the scholarship must be enrolled in an eligible institution for any one of the following courses – Certificate IV, Accredited Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, Bachelors Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma, and Masters or Doctoral degrees. The list of target institutions is yet to be officially published.
Eligibility criteria will be set by each individual institution or education provider, and will include both the requirements for enrolment in a particular course, as well as other criteria specific to award of scholarships.
Detailed rules and procedures involved in the award of scholarships are currently in their development phase.
