How to Study in UK with Full Scholarship
The key to finding scholarships for Indian students to study in UK is to have a strategy in place. Here’s what you can do.
Start the search early
In any scholarship program, funds are limited. Even if you have a great track record, you could miss out on full scholarships because you started too late. Start at least 6 months in advance!
As you search, keep an eye on the things you will need, and get them ready. These could include:
1. Acceptance letter: You may not have this yet, but it’s good to keep a checklist handy.
2. Transcripts of previous study.
3. Formal proof of sports, internships etc.: These may need to be translated into English.
4. Official proof of income category.
5. Personal Statement: While you need to write a separate one for each application, it is useful to have some talking points ready.
Search Based on Categories
The best way to find the right scholarship is to break down your search into categories. If you just search for “Scholarships”, you will get overwhelmed!
These categories could include:
1. Country-specific e.g. UK Chevening Scholarships
2. University or Department-specific e.g. Warwick Business School scholarship
3. Scholarships for international students
4. Scholarships for Indian students
5. Scholarships for research, artistic, or athletic achievements
6. Scholarships for students with low incomes
Narrow Down the List…
…but not too much!
You should have a sensible number of options, corresponding to your eligibility level. If you do not qualify for a low-income scholarship, it should not be on the list.
But, you also shouldn’t exclude a scholarship if you do not fulfil one or two requirements. Keep about 10 options ready.
Focus on Your Application
Full scholarships come with high competition. To beat out others, your application needs to stand out!
This includes writing the perfect Personal Statement / SOP, using the following guidelines:
-
Target your essay at the specific program, instead of generalising.
-
Highlight achievements other than academic scores, such as sports, internships etc.
-
Show clarity in your career goals.
Don’t forget to proofread and double-check your documents!
