About the test

1. Speaking and Writing

The test involves a number of modules designed to test your ability to communicate in English with clarity and fluency in speaking, and coherence and proficiency in writing. The amount of time given to complete this test is between 77-93 minutes.

The modules include:

• Personal introduction 
• Read aloud
• Repeat sentence
• Describe image
• Re-tell lecture
• Answer short question
• Summarise written text – into a single sentence
• Summarise written text – into a single paragraph
• Essay-writing

2. Reading

The test involves modules designed to test your reading skills i.e. your ability to comprehend information based on reading. Based on the passages given, you will have to answer the questions. The amount of time given to complete this test is between 32-41 minutes.

The modules include:

• Multiple-choice questions
• Re-order paragraphs
• Fill in the blanks

3. Listening

The test involves modules designed to test your reading skills i.e. your ability to comprehend information based on listening. Based on the passages given, you will have to answer the questions. The amount of time given to complete this test is between 45-57 minutes.

The modules include:

• Summarise spoken text
• Multiple choice
• Fill the blanks
• Highlight the correct summary
• Select missing word
• Highlight incorrect words
• Write from dictation

PTE - Scoring

IN the PTE Academic Score Report you will find scores that are defined as your overall score, communicative skills scores and enabling skills scores.

The overall score is a reflection of your overall English language ability. You will get this score based on how you perform in all the questions in the test. The score ranges from 10-90 points.

The test items also assess communicative skills - listening, reading, speaking and writing which are either found as a single skill or together with other skills. The range for each communicative skill score is 10-90 points.

Enabling skills are also tested and they are grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary and written discourse. The scores are given for all the test items where one or more of these skills are assessed. The range for each enabling skill score is 10-90 points.

The displayed scorecard below will allow you to understand which areas you need to improve upon, besides telling you how each skill relates to your overall performance.
